Asian Tsunami Disaster

Like me, I know you have been astonished
and humbled by the generosity of citizens the world over in giving and not
least of those that work for Microsoft. However, our culture is rightly an
enabled one – and I feel that we can take a lead in enabling our people
to do even more.


Here’s what we could do to really
take a lead:



Instigate an ad-hoc “Special Leave
of absence” to allow individuals to take, say 6 weeks, in order to volunteer
for charity aid at a time of unprecedented disaster and human suffering.



Allow a special task force to be spun up
of volunteer staff and liaison with the emergency disaster committees or
Children in Need etc. I would love to be able to go to one of these groups and
say “here are 10 / 20 / 50 Microsoft employees – how can we help?”


I take it as read that we would have to
be very thoughtful about how many folks we could release and in what area’s
of the business.
